SMIC opinions

Doing a small single with prob a goal of 375-400WHP. Looking into SMIC only as getting a Greddy V mount is a little out of reach at this point, sadly. No FMIC but I did have my eye on the ETS one.

Looking for feedback back on those who have XX brand in regards to fitment and MAINLY, keeping battery up front. Main purpose of this thread. I expect a little heat soak on SMIC at targeted WHP goal. Greddy, PFS seems like front runners for me but dare I say eBay smic versions ? Drop in friendly etc.

I don't know if any SMIC small enough to retain the stock battery location will be sufficient for that horsepower goal. I have a PFS, and even on my 250whp car it struggles to keep the IAT's under 70C (158F) during boost. That being said, I do need to improve my ducting, but I think you're going to have to bite the bullet and at least get a big SMIC like the M2 Large or Pettit Cool Charge III. Either one of those will require moving the battery.

Sorry in advance to the OP, but Good Lord...do you have a duct at all? Depending on ambient you should see low to mid 40's C. most days.

OP, I have no experience with SMIC's and a single. But I agree it might be difficult to find an effective one that doesn't require relocating. Or at least a move to a smaller battery. I had a friend that regularly tracked his single/SMIC, but it was an old M2 medium (ASP) SMIC with the duct. And his smaller battery was relocated to the hatch area. If you haven't yet, you might stroll thru the Single Turbo section https://www.rx7club.com/single-turbo-rx-7s-23/ and do a search. I think they also have a "show me your single set-up" picture thread that might have some clues.

here are some popular SMIC's that don't require battery relocation:

Greddy:

Pettit cool charge 2:

M2 medium:

Blitz:

PFS:

I've never heard any complaints about fitment with regards to those. I can only speak about the PFS since I had one and it fit like a glove.

BTW- One of the most important factors about the SMIC is a duct.

wow those are terrible AIT's... My estimated RWHP was around 300 and during boost, my PFS unit would keep me hovering in the low 50's on 75F days.

I have the Blitz one. Notice how it retains the stock intake box and even crossover duct for extra stealthy smog check purposes. Mine's even painted black.

Thanks for all the feedback on this. Greatly appreciated

Looks like the 'medium" versions are the biggest fitting ones keeping everything at bay, literally. They last thing I want is a heat soaked IC when out for fun with a few runs (even with proper ducting) so sizing is coming up again. Seems I may have to relocate the battery to properly execute this build for proper CFM coverage.

SMIC + Koyo + dual oil coolers + proper ducting for everything = I've never had a problem with overheating, even during the middle of summer in the California desert. My car still runs sequential twins, so it makes more heat than a car with a single turbo.

Another thing to consider is rules on the track. Some organizations require a firewall between you and your battery.

I like your suggestion here as I am completely stock at the moment. Do you happen to have any photos of your setup that you could share?
