sloppy shifter

86 gxl

My shifter is really sloppy. When I attempt to shift into first, it sometimes goes in inbetween a 30-45 degree angle. When attempting to shift to second, it hits a complete stop as if second doesn't exist.

Do a search for shifter bushings. You will find everything you need to know about shifter bushings. In fact, always do a search before posting a question. Any problem you run into will almost certainly have been discussed in the forum.

BTW, you can download a copy of the factory service manual from the link in the 2nd gen FAQ.
