WA Shutting my door unlocks passenger Door!..Why?

Hi, just got my first rx-7 about a month ago and have just recently realized that if i lock the doors from the inside then proceeded to shut either door the passenger door will unlock. i think it may have something to do with an overly sensitive lock mechanism but im not sure

Thanks Jake

This happens to me as well. But in my case If i lock the door and then shut it it will unlock. So i either have to lock one door from the inside and lock the other from the outside. Or both from the outside. My guess would be that when you close the door the latch triggers something with the lock. But I've yet to look into it.

Hold the handle up when you shut the door.

My Merkur and Subaru do the same thing. UOP is right. Holding the handle up when you shut the door should fix your problem.

This isn't a defect, it's a feature. It's to prevent you from accidentally bumping the door closed and locking your keys in.

^ do this

Mine does the same thing on driver's side (passenger side doesn't open from outside so I don't worry about locking it haha)

That's possible but I haven't had they door apart. However it seems like the previous owner had it apart at some point. Because it doesn't seem as tight fitting ad the passenger door panel.

A few minutes reading the owners manual would probably also answer this. Passenger side also LOCKS when locking the drivers side. Nothing wrong. Hold the handle up.

I recommend oiling all locking mechanisms. I did this and my locks and doors are butter now

..damn!..and I used Crisco instead of oil.So my locks are "I can't believe it's not butter" now!..... (sorry I had to jump on a funny spell-check mistake!)
..Seriously the FC door locks need to have the outer handle raised when you close the door,or the door will not lock.
But,you can adjust the rod and make it tighter so the door when closed will stay locked...I know,I did it on my car and it is working fine.Lock inside lock, slam door, door remains locked.
