Serious problem?

I just got back from a drive and when i parked and started getting out i noticed a bit of smoke coming out of the shifter area. Is this Serious or is it one of those problems that become serious if i don't change an oil or something soon? Thanks

Uh i would say the colour of the smoke was grayish, there wasn't too much and it was kind of a nasty synthetic burning smell but it wasn't a strong smell i could just smell it when i stuck my head over the shifter.

First of all, replace your shifter boot. If smoke is coming in, it's not sealed. Any exhaust leaks around the cat/downpipe area will let CO into the car. Not good.

I'd guess that the smoke is coming from an engine oil leak that is flowing onto something very hot, and the smoke is making it's way through your worn out boot. Jack the car up and take a look.
