s5 air pump?
I just got a 90 convertible, and the guy before me wired the vdi and the 6port open, i have the air pump and would like to put it back on so i can pick up a little of that bottem end back up. my question is where can i find instructions on hwo to do so. and he also said i would need a new actuator does anyone know where i can find one of those too? sorry for the noob question im new to rx7's. thanks
look in the second gen. archive for help with installing it, theyre might be something in there or just search and look in the classifieds for someone doing a partout or post a wanted to buy for the actuators.
The system works like this:
The air pump connects to the air control valve (ACV). There is a nipple on the top of the ACV that has a vacuum hose that will run to a pair of emissions solenoids on the rack. These solenoids are connected to the ECU, which grounds them at 3800 RPM & 5200 RPM. This allows air to make its way to the VDI actuator (driverside of upper intake manifold, UIM) and 6-port actuators (passenger-side, LIM). There are metal hardlines on the emissions rack connecting everything.
So depending on what exactly the previous owner (idiot) removed, there could be a few components to pick up again. There are also a pictures of the VDI and 6PI systems in the factory sevice manual (FSM). See the FAQ for download links.
