S4t2 lose shifter?

Ok like the title said I have a 88 s4t2 it's not a swap, all original . Ok well down to the problem my shifter is sloppy like if I put it in neutral an push the stick to the left it won't spring back to the middle . I've taken my car to shops that worked on rx7s but one told me that that's normal an the second told me he had no clue so that got me no where an this isn't my first stick car I kno that tha my stick shouldn't be like that so that first guy was bsing hard . So if any1 that has gotten this problem before please lead me to the right way

You have a broken shifter return spring. The repair requires dropping the transmission to get access to it. It's the spring listed here: Transmission

It's a somewhat common problem. Not 'normal' though.

While doing this if you have the money id go ahead and replace the shifter bushings if they look broken/worn

there should be a plastic busing on the bottom of the shifter. if the busing is worn, the shifter will get a lot of movement. so just just take the shifter out to check if the busing is worn...

+1 with this but ive gotten around doing this without dropping the trans though it was a bitch with the tight space and removing the block around the selector shaft

From what I remember when I pulled out the old shifter there wasn't a bushing there was just a ball tip an when I replaced it with a short shifter it didn't come with one ether so I didn't see anything wrong . I just had an idea that there's sometime of spring in there that's not doing its job lol

Check this thread out theirs good write ups and I also explained removing the detent which will need to be removed in order to remove the shift block.

http://www.rx7club.com/new-member-rx...issue-1012189/

once you remove your shifter **** you can remove your drive line and drop your Trans support brackets and let it rest on a jack for better leverage. Theirs a pin that holds the shift block to the shaft. After removing the reverse/5th detent device you should be able to muniver the shaft to knock that pin straight back. Or you can be lucky and use a pick to pull it out. You ll see what I'm talking about once you unbolt that 10mms plate on the right side of the shifter housing
