Question S4 to S5 swap.

Hey, everyone. I just picked up an '87 Turbo II model recently, but the motor was converted to NA and carb'd. The seller told me it needs some adjustments, and that it has somewhat of an overheating problem. Overall, it looks kind of messy, but it runs for sure.

I'm thinking the first major thing I'll want to do is sell the current motor and get a real S5 Turbo II crate motor for a clean foundation. What I'm asking for is any advice on this project since I'm pretty new to rotaries, and hopefully some suggestions for where to buy a crate motor. I've seen a few websites already, and quite a few numbers, but I figure I'd run it by the FC3S community and see what it has to say.

Please and thank you!

Get an S4 engine. S4 and S5 wiring/electronics differences can make a mess of things. If you want the main benefit of the S5 engine, find an S5 turbocharger and exhaust manifold. Turbo swap details are listed in the 2nd gen FAQ at the top of this section. I've included some of the better links in there.

Used J-spec engines can be purchased from one of the many engine importers. A vendor named Japan2LA is one of the more reputable importers, and is here on the forum. The decision to use such an engine as-is, or to rebuild it is up to you.
