I have an 86 n/a gxl. I took the hose off the air pump that ran to the air intake because i upgraded the intake to an aftermarket cone filter. so far i've been running the car without anything covering up the opening to the air pump until earlier today. i tried capping it off because i was told by a mechanic that it could be considered a vacuum leak and contribute to my high idle problem. the problem with this is as soon as i put the cap on over the air pump opening the car didn't want to run right. i gave it gas in nuetral and the rpms just bounced between 800 up to 1600 and in gear it would stall. when i took the cap off the car ran fine. the questions i wanted to ask were does the s4's 5th and 6th ports open with the help of the air pump? and are there any problems that can occur from me running the car with the hose off the air pump allowing it to suck in more air than it's supposed to? also can anyone tell me why the car did that when i covered up the opening? i tried covering it once before and everything ran fine.
