I just ran the number on my distributor and it came up as stock equipment on the 86 model. My car is a 91 . I'm hoping that this mixmatch is completely possible and that I don't actually have an s4 engine.

I have searched using the site and Google using "S4 distributor S5 engine site:rx7club" but with no answer as to the compatiblity.

Unless your car is from certain foreign markets, you don't have a distributor. You'll have a CAS (Crank Angle Sensor), which is interchangeable for all FCs ('86 to '92).
