Rx7 FD Boost Issues with Electronic Boost Controller

Hello,

I believe this is my first post on here! I have a 1993 rhd fd I bought a year ago. It has BNR turbos, simplified sequential setup, the JDM Downpipe, catless mid pipe, and an apexi power fc.

Now to my issue. I love the sequential system it’s incredibly unique. My sequential setup was working perfectly. I replaced all the solenoids in the rack when I did the simplified sequential setup from this forum. I installed the newer Greddy Profec EBC on the car. The EBC works great, but after I fully boost (transitions perfectly too) I lose boost on the upshift. I’ve read through many posts that had similar issues and can’t find any issues already posted about as the fix. The key to my situation being it didn’t lose the boost before the EBC install, and now it does. I tried both methods of vacuum line hookups for a boost controller (I believe referred to as “version 1” and version 2).

my main question is there a setting in the Power FC I might need to change?

If you’re running a bov or stock bypass air valve, boost pressure will be bled off whenever you let off the throttle, and possibly while load reduces during shifting.

don’t want to loose boost pressure, look at the rally world and don’t run a bov or bypass air valve. I believe it’s term is DOSE, but puts more stress on the turbo since it tries to spin backwards.

I wonder if you’re real problem is not optimizing use of the ebc and getting it to build boost faster.

I run a greddy profec bspec 2 in a t2 fc and I see 3 benefits of an ebc:
1. Raises max boost pressure
2. can reach max boost faster by bleeding off air that normally goes to the wastegate until max boost is achieved.
3. Start closing wastegate if boost bleeds off at high rpm.

all these are configurable in the ebc.

Sorry if I’m not reading your problem correctly.

(I'm not sure if you've already fixed this since this post is a couple weeks old, but here goes.)

I'd get rid of the EBC and see if it works correctly. You're in a good spot, because you did one thing to the car and its not running properly. So undo that one thing. If it runs fine afterwards, then I'd either
A) Get rid of the EBC
B) Throw the EBC on the shelf until you run into a tuner. They would know whether or not the EBC is compatible with your Power FC, how to troubleshoot and see if the part is bad, etc.

Having a boost controller this early in your build is not a deal breaker, ESPECIALLY if its causing problems.
