Rx-7's in the winter.

I'm getting an '88 Rx-7 in April. I'll be moving back to my home town, Chicago, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what I should do for the winters in Chicago. Sandbags in the trunk for more weight on the back tires? Snow tires?

There's nothing about the RX-7 that makes it a bad winter car. Just put on a good set of snow tires and assuming you know how to drive, no weight in the rear will be necessary and you won't have any issues.

Cool thanks man. I was just wondering. Cause I know the rear end of a 240 would slip out pretty good in the winter.

Well, if you are hard on the throttle or don't have very good clutch control, you'll have similar problems in the RX-7. Much like any rear wheel drive car though.

I'm from Minnesota and drove a FC in the winter before. I didn't add any extra weight, just drove smart.

I live in Minnesota and have more fun driving in the winter than in the summer sometimes. Have had 2 others while here and never had a problem. That said clutch control is a must!

Just get an amazing set of winter tires and you'll be set. Don't drive like you would on a great day in summer that's for sure. You may slip and slide here but hopefully it'll come with Limited Slip so that'll be prevented a bit.

I live in IL and just endured the snow with my vert for the first time. It definitely wanted to drift in the snow but I am used to front wheel drive so this is my first RWD ride. Clutch control and going slow go hand in hand. Pretty fun to drift in the snow though!
