NY RX-7 Engine Idle Problem

Hi Everyone,
Have been absent from the forum for quite some time. Unfortunately I have an annoying problem with my stock 1988 RX-7 Series 4 convertible. About a year or so ago I started having trouble with the engine idle speed - it only wants to idle at 1500 rpm even after the engine has warms up and running for a while. The car has only 11,700 miles since new and I'm the original owner. I've tried both revving and running the engine at high speed but it doesn't seem to do any good. I'm not a mechanic so I don't want to mess with any of the engine idle speed adjustments and screw things up!

I've been told by other RX-7 owners that the fast idle problem isn't all that unusual and a good mechanic can fix it. So what I need is a recommendation for a trustworthy RX-7 mechanic on Long Island, NY whose worked on rotary engines and can fix the idle without messing up anything else.

Any help would be much appreciated.....................

Thanks

Have you tried lowering the idle with the idle screw on the top of the intake?

If it only idles with a high idle you could have a vacuum leak bringing unmetered air which is why it will only idle at such a high rpm.

I would also check your tps and make sure it is working and adjusted correctly, as well as checking your timing.

have you tried to take the throttle body inlet off and see if the Primary throttle butterfly is fully closed at idle?.
If it is being stuck open a bit due to "crud" build up it won't be able to go back to "closed" to allow it to properly idle.
Also check Throttle cable tension to see if the Cable is slack enough at Idle to let the TB close.Any tension will throw off idle.
Cruise control cables have been know to not allow the TB to close too.so Check that cable too if you have cruise.
