Running without a TPS

Question pertains to a '91 FC S5 Turbo:

Hi,
I've been having a really jolty ride as I go on and off my throttle lately. I tested my TPS based on the suggestions found on https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...-101-a-235007/. It was completely out of wack. Started around 1.25k ohms and sporadically ramped up to infinite resistance. I'm assuming I need to purchase a new one.

I tried disconnecting the sensor completely and the car has already been running better. Problems with the idle when cold, and I can hear backfiring when I come off the throttle at high rpm.

I wanted to check if I'm damaging my car if I drive it around like this until the new TPS arrives.

Thanks!

Well the ECU won't know what fuel to give the engine and you may go lean and Blow it up.
does that answer your question?..Are you UP for a blown engine today?

W/the TPS disconnected the ECU defaults to full throttle so the car should not run the best it could unless of course you are driving at full throttle.

Thank you both for the quick response:

If the ECU defaults to full throttle then it will be running rich instead of lean, correct? I realize it might be a little down on power, and burn more gas, but do I run the risk of blowing it up as misterstyx69 suggests? Thanks again.

The extra fuel isn't going to help. Easiest way I can explain it is that a pig rich condition is gonna try to wash away necessary oil thereby causing premature seal wear. Replace the tps. Adjust as necessary. Enjoy.

Thank again. I've managed to source a new TPS and should have it soon. In the meantime, I guess I'll try my hardest to stay out of the drivers seat :-)
