Running Sluggish, Top Speed 40 MPH
I just recently bought a 1981 RX7 gs, The lady i bought it from told me the condition it was in. But the body is in mint condition and interior looks like new. One time owner and all records of work ever done. and i got what i figured was a good deal (900$).
Anyways the problem with the car is that it runs sluggish and wont accelerate above 40-45 MPH. I checked the carb and butterfly valves and they seem to be working, i also found some unplugged vaccum hoses so i pluged those back in to their correct locations. Also replaced the fuel filter just to make sure.
The car would idle when i bought it, but now it doesn't even seem to want to idle very well.
I'm new to rotary engines so I'm not sure if this is the seals or something else. I have done alot of reading on these fourms and tried what people have suggested to others but nothing seems to work. So i decided to make my own post and see if i could figure anything out.
Any idea of what my problem may be? Does it sound like it could be my seals? Any suggestions will be appreciated because at this point i am very lost and no shops around town want anything to do with a rotary.
Thanks,
Dakota

A good start would be to compression test the motor. Its a bit different then testing the compression on a piston engine so search around for the correct procedure.
Was the car sitting for a long time?
