Rotor Housing Resurfacing Services
Rotor Housing Resurfacing Services
Does anyone have any experience with Goopy Performance or Freelance Motorsports rotor housing refurbishing services? I've seen reports of people using them with good compression results right after their rebuild, but I haven't seen any feedback on the longevity of the housings once resurfaced. Has anybody used the service? Has anyone put enough miles on their resurfaced rotor housings to need another rebuild? How did they hold up? How many miles before the next rebuild? I'm trying to decide whether to try and salvage the 12a from my 83 gs or spend the time, energy and $$$ sourcing a 13b from a later model. Any feedback helps. Also open to buying 12a rotor housings in good shape if I can find some, any leads? Thanks in advance.
its only as good as the chrome allows it to be, if your chrome is already peeling down to the steel in any spots then you will always have some compression or blowby issues.
problem with the 12A is the chrome is usually already too far gone to try and salvage.
goopy has been working on rechroming the housings though and i believe they are into the production phase of that, which can bring new life back to your 12a housings.
as far as longevity goes, i haven't had any issues with the reliability of resurfaced housings prematurely wearing out any faster than using the used housings, with the exception of better results from higher compression. i've been doing it for 10 years and haven't had any complaints of engines losing compression in short order. there have been a few random cases of aftermarket seals biting into the housings, but i can't even say the resurfacing was at fault for that, but moreso the seal materials being too soft unlike the OEM treated cast iron seals.

First of all thanks for the response! I do have some minor flaking on the rear housing, but the worse part is the groove around the edge of the front housing probably 1mm deep 2mm wide. Doesn't sound like resurfacing is an option for me.
