rev buzzer coming on early

this is an intermittent problem, the rev buzzer coming on anywhere from 2k-4.5k. I have no idea why its doing that and hope to get some insight. all fluid levels are optimal, coolant,oil,brake fluid. but sometimes it will buzz at the appropriate rpm but lately it hasnt. I do have a bad oil seal, but that shouldnt create that issue to my knowledge. any thoughts?

Air in the cooling system, or oil level is low & you're cornering hard. If you're not seeing a warning light along with the buzzer, it's likely broken.

Bad coil? If the coil is going bad (leading i believe) it will lose signal going to the tach, as this coil is providing signal to the teach to give you your rpm reading.



A good indication is if the tach shuts off on its own after the car starts.

Insert trailing.

So it gets signal from trailing coil not leading?

Ive not worked on a rx7 in a while so wasn't completely sure.

Had mine for 6 years had to sell it for reasons beyond my control.

Getting back in the game, so thats why Im back on here posting often. I have a good knowledge base, its just a little rusty.

^ correct. The Y/L wire at the trailing coil runs to the tach.

Tachometer doesn't act up at all, but I have a few trailing coils I can swap in to see if that's the issue. Coolant and oil levels are ideal, cept the fact I got a bad oil seal. I keep an eagle eye on my oil level, check it daily. Its just annoying that it buzzes so early at me. Thanks for suggestions.

If you are certain it's the tach then there is an adjustment feature on the back of the tach to change when the buzzer comes on.

somehow it seems to have fixed itself for the time being. but when it screwed up the shift light would come on and off as normal and the tach sweeps great, has no bounces or stutters. ill most likely be doing away with it when i do my turbo swap and megasquirt install. just annoying when it goes off early since the car is my dd for the time being. please enlighten me mpre on buzzer adjustment. is it an adjustable screw or do i need to solder in a resistor?
