Retrieving fault codes

I’ve grounded the single terminal green connector. When I turn key to on position, check eng light lights briefly, go out for a couple of seconds, and then comes back on continuously (no long or short flashes). Any ideas why this is not working or a different approach? I have a call in to a Mazda service department but I kinda doubt they still have the SST coder reader for this age car. The car is in limp mode. I suspect the Oil Metering Pump (same symptoms as I had 20 years ago when in limp mode - OMP then diagnosed by Mazda dealership). Car has sat in garage undriven for 10+ years.

i know the second link is for a Gen 3, but i like RAD Potential's videos. i trust him, and i figured the process for the FD can't be too far removed from that of the S5. hope one or both of them helps you.
