Replacing original stereo/cassette deck
Replacing original stereo/cassette deck
What options are there to replace the factory stereo? I assumed my speakers were toast but have tried three different aftermarket speakers none of which worked well. Now I suspect the original factory receiver may be the problem.
welcome to the board.
your profile says you have and '84.
maybe take a look here: https://www.crutchfield.com/m_362950/Classic-Car.html
that said, honestly, it's really up to you what you want to do. do you have to update to something modern? do you want to stick with something that has a period-correct feel?
a few months ago i saw an ad for a company that you can send them your old radio and they can basically rebuild it with modern features, so you can essentially have the best of both worlds, but i lost the information i wrote down. maybe someone here knows what i'm talking about.

My car is a 1984 GS. I would really like to keep the original deck. I have tried 3 sets of aftermarket speakers neither worked well. The RMS wattage on the OEM speakers is 10W, the lowest new speakers I have tried was 35w. Seems like the old deck can't power the "bigger" speakers.....Not sure. Upgrading the OEM deck would work!
