remove fuel cut chip?

i just recently bought my rx7. the guy who owned it before me.. well, to say the least, he did some pretty dumb stuff to the car... i won't go into details at this time..

anyways, my question was about the fuel cut chip he had installed. i'm not sure i like the sound of it. i was reading about the racing beat fcc it sounds like it's just bad news. should i just go ahead and remove this thing or what?

thanks

Just remove it from between the harness and the pressure sensor.

Note that when you do, the car will cut all fuel to the rear rotor if the boost passes 8.6 PSI. This is to avoid an overboost situation.

It's a fuel cut defenser. And like Aaron pointed out, it's there to stop the ECU from cutting fuel above stock boost levels. That being said, while it will let you run more boost, it will also fool the ECU and cause timing to no longer be pulled properly when under pressure. So if you don't plan on running boost levels over stock, removing it will allow timing adjustments to be made like they should.

Keep in mind, you will need to add fuel before taking boost over say ~8-9psi. And at that point, you'll need something to control the bigger injectors. An Rtek chip will be far more timing friendly than the FCD, and solve the injector control problem. Details here: www.pocketlogger.com

Completely different things.

Turbo timers are not needed. Boost controllers adjust when the wastegate opens to allow you to see higher boost levels. The FCD just keeps the ECU from cutting fuel at 8.6psi by altering the signal from the boost sensor. The Rtek chips for the stock ECU remove the fuel cut code altogether, so there is no "fooling" going on.

You should take time and read up on the performance section before you start tinkering with your new purchase. Congrats.

The Rtek is a much better route.

But as mentioned above, give it a little time before you start modifying the car. A good knowledge of what's going on will keep it safe. A rotary turbo is easy to blow, if you don't do it right.
