Recommended mods for a 93 rx7?

I recently bought a stock 93 rx7. It's manual with a 1.3L rotary 13b engine. I've always been fascinated with the rx7 but I know very little about it and it's possibilities. I know about the V8 engine swaps you could do but I'm not ready for that. For now I would like to know the first mods I should do to it. (and I will do it one at a time for troubleshooting) I've been to many car meets and shows and usually they have these rev contests. I'm looking to mod my car so that it's fast and pretty loud while being legal at the same time. (Don't be worried about the money, I want to know the best mods)

Thanks

your first post has some warning signs already -___-

i would suggest reading all you can. there is a FAQ thread with more information in it that life knows what to do with. i still reference it from time to time. its a great starting point that will teach you about the basics. you will learn what mods you should be doing first and WHY. which is the most important part of learning. why did you mention troubleshooting? is there something wrong with the car?

^ Absolutly agree. After the FAQs search in the 3rd Gen tech section using terms like the "three mod rule". Will be pretty old threads but IMO still valid. And while I'm glad you took the time to ask and post the thread, "rev contests" sounds like something high schoolers would do.

Like they said above...

First thing to do: change all the fluids and make sure maintenance is up to date. Are the turbos working right? Rats nest is good shape? Buy a shop manual, or get a close relationship with a local rotary expert.

What do you want to do with the car? Plan for that.
Go faster around corners? Faster in a straight line? Make a show car? All are good choices.

First mods: take care of cooling issues. This will make the engine last long enough to do more. This can include: real temperature gauge (read about the stock non-linear gauge), radiator, oil coolers, Air separation tank, etc. Oh, and I like a boost gauge - very informative.

Drive and enjoy the car.

Then think about performance upgrades.
Suspension or engine? Tire and wheels?
A downpipe may be the first suggested power related mod, and it will help with underhood cooling too.

Enjoy the attention you get in a sweet looking, unique, timeless, sports car.

I would do shocks/ springs/bar and brake pads first. Short shifter is nice too. After that downpipe and exhaust before you move on to intercooler and tuning. Best way is that order.

Definitely sound advice here. I would add....make sure you always let her warm up to operating temp before driving off.....and NEVER introduce boost when engine hasn't had time to warm up.
At least you are in the right place. There so much info on this forum to help everyone that if all the rotary geniuses on here left....they left everyone in good hands.

Silicone vacuum line and viton check valves will save you MANY migraines with your twin turbos. See Dale Clark's posts for the details.

Beyond cooling upgrades (all-aluminum radiator such as a Koyo one, twin oil coolers) and proper coolant temp/boost gauges, the Simplified Sequential vacuum diagram will make your life far easier in diagnosing boost issues. I used it as the basis for my 3rotor's twins, they operate just the same as the FD.

If you do have misbehaving solenoids, they can be swapped around as all of the rack solenoids are identical. I can't remember who made the guide for testing them, but Dale Clark or Aaron CAke would know. Some people relocate the solenoid rack so it will endure heat better.

I agree that simplified is the way to go...if you can (i.e. no emissions testing) and an aftermarket ECU. I did. And those check valves are the shiz. I have them. But if your car still has OEM rubber vac lines and your boost pattern is good, personally I'd leave it alone.

Cooling is everything and should come before any performance mods. The only exception I can think of to that is replacing the precat with a down pipe. But doubt there are many cars still out there like that.

+1

Downpipe, water temp gauge to check for overheating, plus a metal AST (RE-A, Pettit, et al.) as a safety measure for when the stock plastic unit leaks.
