My friend rebuilt his fd ten years ago and has yet to start it. Will he need another rebuild? Do apexi seals shrink or stick if not ran? Any help on the breaking in of the motor would be helpful. Also weather or not another rebuild is need do to sitting to long. Thanks!

Start off with the procedure for breaking in a rebuilt rotary engine. Once you feel the compression has built up, compression test the engine. That will tell you if you need to rebuild the engine or not but as stated above me if it was built right and lubed well then there shouldn't be too much of a problem. Any reason he did not start the engine?

He did a ground up build, paint engine bay, rims larger single, power fc, custom v- mount intercooler. ect. Ect. Just got lazy and tired of looking at it I guess. So the car has not been started in years. About 95% done. We will be starting it soon, if we start working on it again lol. Anyways thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Personally this is what I would do...
*Drain the gas and put in fresh along with some good fuel system cleaner. I like BG44K or (less expenesive) some Chevron Techron.
*Change the oil.
*Pull the leading plugs and shoot just a little 2-cycle or MMO into the hole before replacing. Pull the EGI fuse.
*Charge up a good healthy battery and/or leave it on a charger and crank for 10 to 15 seconds at a time with a little rest in between until you see some oil pressure.
*Replace EGI and crank...see what you get. If it starts, let it run/keep it running at least until it comes up to FULL operating temp. A good sign is when the fans kick on.
*Before venturing onto the street I'd consider swapping out the brake fluid and make sure I had a solid pedal and clutch.
*Wouldn't hurt to at least check all the other fluid levels...transmission; differential and coolant.
*After a couple of warm-up cycles or a few miles, I'd swap out the coolant for fresh. It's probably gone acidic after that many years and that's hard on soft seals and irons.
*I'd also consider changing the fuel filter before I put too many miles on it. Especially if you don't know when it was done last.

if you search, you can probably find other threads with more detail, but this was fairly recent.

My friend had a similar story with an old 13bbp. hadn't been started for 10 or so years, but wasn't a fresh motor.. He just used a can of 'start ya bastard' (you might not have this in America - just contains ether to help clean and get combustion) anyways, after a bit of mucking around and changing all fluids, he got it started, and it runs beautiful! Good luck with it !
