Rebuilding AC Compressor - TV14C

Has anyone out there attempted replacing the seals on the AC Compressor? I mean actually pulling it apart. I was thinking about putting together a DIY post if it could help others. So far it's a piece of cake, tho I started with a working, just leaking, compressor.

I figured for ~$30 in seals it was worth a try. Worst part was ordering all the seals, only to realize the R12 compressor is different and having to wait for new stuff to come.

There is a decent guide for a Miata (R134), but it's a slightly different compressor than the TV14C for R12.

Resurrecting an old post - just wondering how the OP made out on rebuilding that TV14C A/C compressor, and where you got all the rebuild parts from?

I'm restoring the A/C system in my FD, and after getting the system fully closed up and partially charged, I find the used compressor is working fine, but it has a slow gas leak from the shaft seal. So I may tackle the compressor rebuild job myself assuming I can find all the necessary parts.

I was able to successfully purchase parts and rebuild the compressor. The parts breakouts are on the A/C parts availability thread and are available thru autozone I believe. Or any place that sells santec parts.

Mine also was working but had a leak. New seals fixed that.

Thanks, I'm going to give the rebuild a try.

BTW, you can get a new TV14C Denso compressor from these guys: https://ackits.net/product/14-3662nc/ That's my plan B if the rebuild is unsuccessful.

I'm having issues getting the center section apart. I've removed all the bolts that I can see. Did you guys find it more difficult to get apart than removing the outer parts?

I got the compressor all the way apart. I bought this reman compressor a couple years ago and immediately overcharged the system and cooked it lol. I’m going to rebuild another one tomorrow that was working when I got it from my buddy.

I ended up with a couple extra o-rings and one extra gasket (seen in one of the pics), and this kit has soft gaskets instead of the metal ones that came out of the compressor. I prefer metal but whatever. If someone knows of a kit with metal gaskets, please let me know. I guess I could reuse the original metal ones too.

The rear gaskets are a little different, but I don’t think it’ll be a problem.

This is my only concern with this compressor. This is the front section.

I only did a partial rebuild on the used FD compressor I got, just replacing the shaft seal which didn't require full disassembly. It was the TV14C R12 version. Anyway, after re-installing it and charging it again, it was still leaking, only worse this time, so thinking I FUBAR'ed the rebuild, I got a new compressor. Then I found that the NEW compressor, which was shipped sealed with a nitrogen pressure charge in it, was also apparently leaking - that's when I realized that I probably misdiagnosed what I thought was a leaky shaft seal on my rebuilt compressor with the sniff tester. The real leak turned out to be a brazed joint where I joined a MIO fitting to the compressor's suction side pipe pad fitting, which sits just under the compressor pulley.

Took that suction side pipe off, removed the brazed MIO fitting, cleaned up the pipe, got a new MIO fitting and gave it to my welder guy to weld for me. Leak free and cooling with R134A since then.

That sounds like a real kick in the nuts lol. Glad you found the leak though. I'm thinking mine must've leaked a couple years ago because apparently it lost the charge over the winter. I had it charged with R152A and it was super cold, but I tried a couple more times after that and kept overcharging it, so this time I'm just going to take it to a shop to get leak tested and charged. I'm tired of messing with it.
