rebuilding 12a or not...
I just got hold of a '84 fb. 12a motor. Planning on doing a nice rebuild(replace apex seals, gaskets, bearings if needed etc...) Got a question. Read a lot on the forums about using newer gens side seal springs in place of the oem 12a ones. Can anyone tell me why this is reccomended and done so much? The motor has a mean misfire at idle and at speed, leaking oil out of the rotor housing/front iron seal, hard to start, wont run unless choke is fully on... I plan on pulling the motor and rebuilding it but first things first. I have no engine hoist and no engine stand. Can this be done without these. I was thinking of using the coffee can method i saw on a rotary rebuild video to support the motor... anyone do this before? Engine hoist i can obtain if needed which i am assuming it is.
Can anyone give me an idea of how heavy the motor is. I might have to do this on my lanai so i will need to carry the engine about 20 feet there. Doable or not? Well thats all for now my fellow rotaryheads. Look foward to the help. peace!
