Rebuild speculations
Rebuild speculations
I was planning getting a master rebuild kit from atkins rotary, but it seems a little expensive and comes with some stuff i dont know if i really need like a new oil pump chain. Im pretty sure i blew an apex seal, but my 12a only has a bit more than 100k on it. My question is, do i need the master kit, or can i go with one of the cheaper ones and still make it reliable?

Big Tip is to get the engine apart FIRST and then order what you need.
If you buy a kit then do not need half the parts then you just waste money.

I am in a similar situation, except my mechanic says that i need to replace oil pump, water pump thermostat etc. It seems excessive but he wont warranty his work otherwise. What do you guys think?

There's zero reason to replace the oil pump unless it is broken or worn out. And they almost never are.
Replacing the thermostat if it's more than a few years old is a no-brainer.
