Rare RX7s

This may be a dumb thought since I haven't had my coffee yet, but...

Every time I look around online for any RXs for sale, I try to look for anything one would typically consider as a rare or hard to find model (granted all generations of RX7s are rare these days).

I've looked for RX2, 3, and 4s and found some here and there. But, for some reason I have an even more challenging time finding any S5 (specifically '91) Turbo IIs. I usually start local, then work my way to regional, and then national. But I tend to find more of the older models in better shape or more complete than any S5s I find.

Anyone know why, or can you share any models you can never seem to find?

S5 TIIs all got painted like a panda and Tokyo drifted into a guardrail.

justkiddingnotreally

S5TII, S5 GTUS, pretty much any FD that's not hacked up... GSLSEs are getting more and more rare around my town. I'd love to find a clean REPU

S5 Turbos are very hard to find - especially those that haven't been messed with. It took me several years just to find my 1990 Turbo II (back in 2006).

Below is a thread that I remember popped up a long time ago that may help you to show why a 1991 Turbo II may be hard for you to find.

Here is a snippet of the thread showing 2nd Gen registered RX-7's in the USA back in 2007.

1991 RX7 TURBO-II COUPE 1.3L 1311cc 13BT ROTARY PORT INJECTION T RWD 92 Units
Remember that these were registered RX-7's (i.e. roadworthy, not-sitting-in-a-junkyard, long-standing project cars, etc). I suspect that the 92 registered 1991 Turbo cars has decreased the past 9 years to at most 75% of that. You can thank the low production numbers from the start (Mazda RX-7 sales that had already started to decline before 1991), the Fast & Furious franchise making everyone think they were invincible racers, and stingy S5 Turbo owners like myself that refuse to sell what they have.

This doesn't mean you won't find one out there that someone is willing to part with. Be prepared to look far outside your area though.

Other models that may be hard for you to find would include the 1988 10th Anniversary Edition, as well as the GTUs model, since there was pretty low production numbers to start with on those. Good luck.

All/mostly OEM versions of any model is rare. If I had to guess...particularly restored OEM 2's , 3's and RPU's.
