welcome to the board.

i'm going to start off by saying i think you may have been misinformed, but let's confirm; which seals are you referring to?

I was thinking the same. Which seals are you referring to? You'd be surprised which parts are still available for our cars!

Local shop had to have them made from scratch total cost to replace 12,000 sound right??

No. That doesn't sound right. Almost every oil seal or gasket I can think of on a 12a is still available either from Mazda or from an aftermarket supplier. For $12,000 you could probably buy two RX7s that don't leak and have cash leftover for new seat covers.

I'd get a second opinion from a different shop.

and all the metal seals inside the engine that a machine shop would have to make are also still available. and even that i can't see being 12k.

^ what he said.

look at Mazdatrix, Atkins, Pineapple, etc., hell, even the dealer ... i'm sure you can get new ones. plenty of private sources for used ones as well, so you have nothing to worry about. your $12,000 is still safe for now.
