Question about a possible future FC
I've been trying to find a fun project for myself to play around with. Now that I have a daughter, my funds have been cut substantially so i'm trying to find something less costly than my original idea was.
I've loved the RX-7 for most of my life. I didn't know too much about them until they appeared in a Need For Speed game many many moons ago. Back then NFS was still somewhat of a Sim and less arcade-like.
I found one on Autotrader, it's an 88 FC with a manual tranny. This is all I can tell to be fact about this car. They call it a twin turbo, also list it as a GTU, in one pic (after saving them to my comp and zooming in) a fender clearly says GXL. And judging by the hood and the top of the engine, it seems like a non-turbo.
Here's where it gets fishy. I ran the VIN listed through a decoder and it came back as a 1988 RX-7 Turbo.
From all the pics and videos I've seen, there aren't many in my area to personally look at, the turbo has some kind of intake or intercooler on top of the motor looking out through a off-center hood scoop. Am I right?
Well I'll leave the rest to you guys to solve. I've tried contacting the dealer, but I guess with the holidays nobody wants to help me out. It's such a bargain I want to jump on it, but I want to go in knowing what I'm dealing with to maybe whittle down the price a little more. It seems like a good deal for a complete project car, and the interior is really clean. Any help is appreciated guys, Thanks.

It is without question a non turbo engine. Considering that the ad lists it as automatic, in good condition, and equipped with ABS, you can discount anything that ad says as true.
If the VIN comes back as a turbo, it is possible that someone has installed the NA drivetrain into a TII. Without some more detailed pictures of the rest of the drivetrain, instrument cluster and engine bay it will be hard to tell.
We have different definitions as to what "clean" means with regard to the interior.
I'd offer the $750 if they will deliver the car on a flatbed, because it's not going to drive the way it is now. Judging by the engine bay, it's been hacked up fairly badly so you will have a lot of work on your hands.

run don't walk!! keep looking there are good fcs in your area. find one that is in good driving cond. and learn from there. usually the best buy is the best one you can find. this one is not complete and likely not even all the parts from the same model.

That's a parts car, maybe worth $150. You can find better deals in our classified section.

Unless you are experienced in paint and body work, you are better off paying $2,000 for a car with a good body and paint rather then buying a $150 car that needs $3,000 worth of body and paint work.
The Turbo II RX-7 came stock with a hood scoop for the intercooler, but some people have upgraded to a larger front-mounted intercooler and installed a non-turbo hood so that water and debris does not enter the engine bay through the empty intercooler scoop.

Thanks for all the insight guys. It really helped a lot. I was pretty sketchy of this car myself, and you guys have convinced me it isn't an honest deal worth going for. I'll keep looking. Thanks again
