Put a new starter in my 1980 12A -- still won't start!
I am happy to be in the forum, though I wish it was under better terms. I recently had the oil lines replaced and some other service done on my 1980 RX-7 (12A engine) by a shade tree fella who knows some things but not others, apparently. When the car was returned, it would not start....I would get a click upon turning the key, but she won't turn over.
Replaced the battery and put in a reman. starter (solenoid attached, of course) and the same "click" with no turnover. It almost seems as if something is disconnected someplace -- well, that's what we think.
My father-in-law and I cannot seem to figure out why she won't turn over. However, in our exploration, we found three disconnected wire harnesses in various parts of the car.
We were hoping that someone in the forum would look at the photos and say, "Well of course it won't start -- you need to simply connect "that" to "that" and it will turn right over.
In the pictures, you are looking at:
1) Disconnected wire harness plus other wires not connected, running beneath the boot covering the shifter area.
2) A disconnected wire harness toward the center of the engine.
3) Other disconnected harnesses, though we believe these are diagnostic in nature.
We appreciate your looking and letting us know if you can help answer our dilemma.
Thank you.

welcome to the board!
the car ran when you took it to him for oil line replacement and came back not starting? can you describe the "other service" that he did?
since you're working with a new starter, for starters (no pun intended) i would go through and make sure all the wires are secure and all connections are clean. there's the main heavy gauge wire from the battery and then there should be a single blade connector (based on the FB and i'd tend the think the SAs are the same). once you confirm that, if it still doesn't crank, we can take it from there.
i glanced at the photos and i seriously doubt any of the wires you showed is where your problem is though.

starter issues are toward the bottom of the first post. he also describes a procedure to test the starter that may be helpful.
