Power Steering opinions
Hey guys, just wanted to see what opinions some of you might have on running an 88 fc "originally equiped with power steering" without it? Also back up your opinions stating why you think what you think. Inform me

Why not just leave it as is?
Never understood this "clean out the engine bay, but do so by removing features of the car" mentality. Are you really sitting there at shows with the hood up so often? And I assume the rest of the engine bay is spotless to match as well?
If you really don't want it, then do it properly: swap in the manual rack. Note you'll need a set of manual inner tie rod ends as well.

Well the power steering pump went out, so my options are get another power steering pump or learn and get as much info on deleting the power steering system. Just trying to see what would be the best option. And the bay is a lot cleaner than most stock rx7s. I have an electric fan. That took out a ton of stuff, ac delete, and air pump delete. Im looking to do an emissions system delete taking out the "rats nest". And sooner or later a good wire tuck. The engine is also painted in mazda blue and silver. housings are silver irons are blue

Replacement used PS pumps are pretty cheap, as loads of people have them because they rip them out. That's the easiest method.
If you do perform the emissions removal, keep in mind that the car won't ever run quite right again. Or at least, not without a lot of effort. The proper way to perform an emissions delete is "full standalone".
Again though, what's the point? Unless your engine bay looks like mine, pulling out features to "clean things up" just seems like a poor trade off.

It all depends what you plan on using the car for. I am going to be tracking my Rx7 and what I did was remove the belt to get a feel of no P/S. I suggest you do the same. Vehicle is light enough to be able to turn depending on which rack your model has. There is a writeup in here on how to depower the rack correctly.

95% of the time, I'm happy with the power steering for a few reasons: I parallel park a lot, I don't need to hit apexes on my way to work in the morning, if I'm holding a drink with the other hand.
The only time I really prefer a manual rack is during a track day. Times you are doing high speed, use low steering angle, and want to have better feedback from the tires.
I don't consider a clean factory component functioning just as it was intended as "clutter". Extra mounts, brackets, unused sensors, lines capped off with bolts, etc those are signs of poor attention to detail to me.
+1 vote for keeping power steering

Got my first fc 2 days ago with no p/s(pump removed, lines capped) its not too hard parking because as soon as you get it rolling its becomes very easy. Also on the highway it is very smooth. Will look into a manual rack tho
