Possible buy 87 rx7 turbo II

Looking at picking up an 87 rx7 turbo II with 84xxx miles. Guy says its currently not running claiming its the mass air flow sensor. I personally don't see how an mas would cause a vehicle not to run but I also know nothing about rotary engines. I have not physically looked at it since it's 2 hrs away from where I live, so I really couldn't give you any details on what it's doing since the guys being vague. Basically I just wanted to know if you'd think it's a good deal for $1000 (going to try & haggle it down more) & if it's worth the $/time to get it running, assuming it's more than the mas. Also bone stock, comes with another mas, broken ds window, & he said it has new plugs, wires, fuel pump with strainer, sent the fuel tank off to be cleaned. Thanks.

Depends entirely on the overall condition of the car. Sounds like it may have seen it's better day based on what little you know and have said. You need to look at it before making any commitment. If he's selling for $1K, chances are he really wants to get rid of it.

Don't want to discourage you, but these cars can become a money pit and unless you are willing and able to do most of your own work, it could cost a lot to get it into shape. For example, if the compression is low, the engine will need to be rebuilt or replaced. Think at least $1,500.00 if you do the work yourself and all major engine components can be reused. The latter is probably unlikely. It goes up from there pretty quickly if you need to replace housings or rotors.

If you want something to work on and learn about these cars, it's one thing. If you're looking for a dependable, low-maintenance daily driver, my advice would be to look elsewhere. There are lots of RX-7's out there, but few of them are in top condition. And those that are, are going for considerably more than $1K.

well as for the air sensor i can tell you that willl make it not run. i was looking into putting on a cai and took the sensor off. the car would start but immidiatly die. so if it does this than yes it could be that way..

If it comes with another mas, that's not what's wrong with it. They take 10 minutes to change, and the owner would've tried it.

Thanks for the help but the guy won't answer any of my calls now so I'm assuming he went ahead & sold it to somebody else. If only I could afford MadMikes, he's on Bragg not even 2miles from my house lol. I'll keep looking.
