please help 84 rx-7
i just purchased a 84 rx-7 (imma honda guy) ...i know cars but rotary is a new world, the guy i got it from cranked it to show it runs, pulled it to my shop and i messed with it alil had to add gas to it and to the carb to crank it, it ran for a total of 5 min and the idle would go from 1g to 4g. Then it died he said the carb floats were stuck, i tried repeatedly to crank it but it wouldn't... Guess i flooded it idk im lost
he said the only thing that was wrong was the floats and the clutch master cylinder... the clutch petal has no pressure and sticks to the floor idk im lost on rotary s
ps. someone please please guide me

Okay. He may actually be correct on the "stuck floats" theory. You can try pulling off the filter housing, then banging on the top of the carb with a plastic hammer. That will sometimes get the float needles unstuck.

1. To check fuel, pull the fuel inlet line off the carb. It should fill a 1L container fairly quickly if you turn the key to 'on'. If it doesn't replace the fuel pump with a generic external low pressure electric fuel pump. NAPA has a decent cheap one made by facet.
2. To check spark, pull one plug, put the wire back on, ground against the body, and have someone crank it. If you see spark, you're okay. If not, check all connections in the ignition system, take the distributer cover off and check the condition of the rotor and contacts. I know when I got mine it looked like it had never been replaced.
3. Next time you try to start it, add some automatic transmission fluid in through the carb. I use an oil can to put a little in at a time. It'll let you start it even if you've flooded, it'll both burn and give you compression by sticking to the housings. It'll smoke good for a bit though.
4. After you get it running, don't shut it down until it warms up. Do that for the rest of the time you own the car.

With 84-85 models, the fuel pump won't run unless you are actually cranking the car over. And then, only if you actually have spark on the trainling ignition. Verifying that you have spark would be a good place to start.
Look in through the little windows on the carb (front and back) and see what the fuel level is. It should be halfway full, but if its anything else let me know (it will help with troubleshooting).
DO NOT dump ATF down the carb. Use a splash of Seafoam instead, your motor will thank you for it.

Not anything to worry about yet. Could very well be condensation buildup due to the removal of an emissions component. There are simple ways to fix that if needed.
Any luck with the carb yet?

Okay....
1. Check for spark on all 4 plugs.
2. Look in the float bowl windows to confirm that you have gas in there (should be half way).
3. Dump an ounce or two of Seafoam (available at most autoparts stores) down the small barrels of the carb.
4. Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
5. Try to start it.
If it does not start, then post back with information pertaining to how it acted, what it does, etc.
