Planning on buying a T2 project.

I currently have my eyes on a T2 project car. When going to look at this what should I check for? The owner is saying its a JDM motor but he has not finished the swap so I will not be able to hear the car run also I'm not sure if he has paperwork for the motor. Are there any specific areas on the car I should check for rust? Are there specific questions I should ask him? Thanks for everyone input.

If the car does not run then you are not buying a car but rather a bunch of used parts that may or may not function properly, so pay accordingly. Also, note that an actual T2 body is worth a little more than a non-turbo body. An actual T2 has a VIN starting with JM1FC332, while a non-turbo starts with JM1FC331. If the parts are for a non-turbo to turbo conversion, then you will want to replace the weaker non-turbo parts with a T2 transmission & starter, driveshaft, LSD, and halfshafts for your project, so hopefully these are all included and in working order. You may also want a T2 intercooler and hood, although some people prefer to upgrade to an aftermarket front-mounted intercooler and use the non-turbo hood since the stock intercooler duct is not needed in this case.

Check in the wheel wells for rust and possibly the sunroof.

if the motor is not a huge concern, make sure the car hasn't been wrecked or salvaged. a straight car is always gonna be a good builder upper. make sure it has legit TII parts also.
