ID Overheat Exhaust Light

Just bought this 81 rx7 and cant seem to figure out why this light wont turn off. As far as the exhaust system goes their is a new cat that was put on and i saw today that the pipe that feeds air to it at low rpms was cut only 2 feet from the intake manifold. would this cause the light to go off?

I've replaced the sensor on the passenger side floor and it still is on along with the buzzer. I currently have it unplugged because I cant stand the buzzer. Thanks for the advice.

The overheat exhaust light coming on, indicates the cat is overheating.

Have you checked timing and mixture?

The main cat gets fresh air feed to it from the air pump. If that pipe isn't connected, the cat will overheat. Once the cat gets too hot, it no longer functions as it should and often collapses internally, plugging the exhaust system.

The previous owner had replaced the cat and their is no place to hook up the cat to the air line. He said the warning light had been an issue ever since he replaced the cat when he first got it. I'm guessing its been around a year with this issue.

Instead of just buying a new cat right now i'll just gut it out. Would I be able to just ram a rod down into it a few times and shake out the insides or do i need take out the entire section?
Thanks for the help!
