VA Outside drivers door handle not working

I went to get in the car the other day and the door wouldnt open. Took the door apart and noticed that the push rod from the handle going to the latch was working just not pushing it far enough. I performed a quick fix that I do not see lasting a long time, but I placed a medium sized zip tie in the hole at the bottom of the rod going into the latch. This gave the rod the extra little bit it needed.

Needed to know if there was a better fix for this? I did not see a adjustment area or anything like that.

Not sure if can apply to the FD. My FC handle broke, in middle, just drilled hole on each side and bent a heavy cotter pin through both sides. put JB weld also, for extra peace of mind. Been 2 years now, no problems.

Finally broke down and ordered the new aluminum handles from RX7handles.com

They should be here Monday and should resolve my issues I am thinking.
