Oil Metering Pump working?

Hello there,

I have a 1985 RX-7 that I bought brand new. It only has 35,000 miles on it. I've only driven it maybe 500 miles in the past few years. I'm planning to use the car now, and wondering how to tell if the oil metering pump is working. I don't want to scorch the engine at this point!

Thanks,
Scott

welcome to the board, Scott.

here is a link to a copy of the FSM: Foxed.ca

i can't remember what the output range is supposed to be, if i recall the test is:

1. disconnect the hoses and put them over a container (a medicine cup would be ideal)
2. hold the RPM at 2000 for a minute
3. see if the output is within the spec in the FSM.

Thanks! Seems pretty straightforward. I'm also considering going with premix. I have no clue how often pumps and lines of this age tend to fail.

Sitting that much I might give the other fluids at least as much attention.

Absolutely! Every drop of every fluid has been replaced. With good stuff.
