Oil Metering Pump,1985 RX7

Hey everyone. As I started looking around I read that a lot of people take the oil metering pump out of the 12A engines. Could someone tell me why? Also, I'm in a difficult spot. I'm trying to locate my pump, witch may, or may not be there x) Would anyone happen to have some pictures of where the pump is located on 1985 Rx7?

I don't mind premixing gas. And I have found the ratio and the type used. But any suggestions would be helpful as well

Thanks

Matt

welcome to the board.

the reasons for removal vary. some people remove them because they don't function, some remove them for aesthetics, some remove it because they simply don't understand them. as i said, it varies.

your MOP should be located on the passenger side, on the front cover. it will have 2 tubes running to the front of the carburetor. most of it might be hidden by the water pump and lower radiator hose.

+1 here. If you're having difficulty locating the OMP, find the exhaust manifold and go forward about 2-3". It's always in the same spot on every rotary.

As for removing it, I wouldn't. Pre-1989 OMPs are rather simple devices and quite reliable. 89+ ones are the troublesome buggers thanks to the stepper motor & 5v feedback wiring.

Thanks guys. Ya I didn't actually remove it. The guy before for me did

I won't remove it if it is still there. But I'm pretty sure it's not

well, if you're still unsure, you can download a copy of the FSM and/or get a Haynes manual. there will be photos of it in either of them.

in the event that you don't have one any more, then yes, premix. you can try seeing if you have any luck locating one, but i'm skeptical that you would anytime soon.
