Oil Leak

So I'm getting an 84 RX7 12A on the 12th. I know it only has one thing wrong with it, being an oil leak. I was wondering if any of you guys have an idea. From his description:

The oil only leaks when the car is running and it steams out of the drivers side of the hood.

Im thinking its probably the o rings under the oil filter? What do you guys think?

I'd say that is an excellent guess...

From what I've been told he also took it to GoodYear to have it looked at. They said it was a cheap part but would cost about $800 to repair (I'm guessing due to labor costs?) Sound right?

What was the part?

There isn't any information in any of your posts which will aid us in answering the question.

He didn't remember off the top of his head. I haven't taken a look at it yet but I figure getting the 7 for only $500 is a good deal. I'm taking the car to my mechanic first to see if its even worth trying to fix before I pay him. Even if he doesn't think its worth it, I'll probably still fix it lol

my 7 is doing the same thing. i believe it to be the o-rings under the beehive. also check to make sure that the oil filter is tight. that can also cause a leak. from what i have read 800.00 to do this fix is a bit steep. i would definatly look into doing this fix on your own. it will also help to learn more about the car.

If it really is the o-rings under the oil filter, then 1 hour of shop time and two 3 cent o-rings are all it takes.

$800 is very, very high to fix an oil leak unless it is a dowl leak. That's why I have asked what this "part" is that needs to be replaced. It's vital to answering your question.

Well the owner (my room mate) actually got food poisoning. Hes going to go home for a couple of days to recover so he might snap some pictures of the car for me while he is there. At the very latest, I'll get the car by Saturday and I'll be able to be a little more precise about what looks to be leaking.

As far as the price goes, it was GoodYear, and god knows if they have any idea what theyre doing lol

The "beehive" is the stupid oil to water cooler installed on some 1st gens. There are two little o-rings that seal it to the block and they are very prone to leaking. 2nd gens have this problem as well but they don't have a beehive.
