from what i understand, royal has no conventional motor oils. they're all synthetic with their "synerlec" technology.

VA what more do you need 1ROTOR2NV...?

if an oil company can't make a good synthetic gear oil, why even consider using it in an engine... if you would have read the entire write-up. you would have seen that i posted on royal purple's quality control going to sh@#! they outsource their ingredients now...

royal purple was once awesome, but now they are simply a name...

I did read the entire thread, that was obvious or I wouldnt have asked the question referencing the gear oil. Although it may seem that if they do not make a good gear oil then why consider any product, but I always like to ask around, alot of people use Royal purple in their motors' form this forum with no problems. I am also weiry of random bar graphs that don't have any legit publishing rights attatched, I could easily produce a graph showing the contrary, I just want to ensure the census is the same throughout the forum.

Funny thing

Funny thing, I found the graph on the Amsoil website, go figure one of their biggest competitors failed the test they were promoting, go figure, and they got first. I will concede the tests appeared legitimate and well documented but I cannot believe there is nobody willing to contest the reputation of Royal Purple here.

VA i respect your reasoning 1ROTOR2NV...

ever see the movie "Tommy Boy"? i think the gist was... you can **** in a box, slap a guarantee on it, but it's still **** (lol). as far as synthetics, i've always decided by first hand experience.

i've tried royal purple in my former transmission. i had it in there for 30 days. the 2nd and 3rd gear syncros crunched to high heaven. i friend told me RP was "the ****". i challenged him and returned to running redline mt 90. 24 hrs later, NO syncro chrunching. i have heard locally (from a few shops) that royal purple's quality has gone down hill drastically over the last few years. my experience was proof enough for me.

trust me, i'm not gonna twist anyone's arm. i'm a firm believer in my knowledge being free. sometimes it's good to learn from other's mistakes/experience and sometimes it's good to learn on your own. if you learn on your own, their is no one to blame other than yourself

i would like to try aimsoil somewhere down the road. my verdict is still out on them, however...

Royal purple poing down ???

Well, thanks for the insight none the less, i'm gonna look into this a little further, just for the record I use the amsoil in my diff and I have never had an issue, as far as motor oil, the verdict is still out.

Anyone else out there have similar findings that Royal Purples' quality has went down, let me know.

synthetic doesn't burn clean

also take a minute to think that mazda says not to use synthetic. it doesn't burn clean. it causes build up. they are also engineers and those who don't agree then you are willing to gamble with your engine. for what just so you can argue....

VA read the write up for sure...

if you are going to chime in, do your homework first. way back in the day, synthetics did not burn clean. they have come a long way. further more, mazda used synthetics in their rotary race engines. come on people, if you do your homework, it will prevent ignorance being spread on this forum.

as far as my own choice, synthetics are not economical for me since i prefer to change my oil every 2500 miles due to small internal blow by. gas will end up in the oil on any rotary mainly due to frequent cold starts.

I am running Idemitsu Racing Oil for Rotary Engine - 10W30 purchased from mazdatrix.com

excellent stuff, engine runs quiet with quick and smooth revs.
can't comment on too much more only driven 500km on new oil change.

I came from Hong Kong. I would use 10W-40 Castrol GTX year round and 20w-50 when it gets really hot.

these are the two i use in british columbia. but i find that the weather here being more moist the oil needs to be changed more often then say australia or higher temp areas year round i find. when i take off my oil cap condensation has always formed from castrol i seem to find. is this from my cold Canadian weather or is it my oil choice? thanks friends. oil is dumped ever 1,500-2,000 kms max.

back to an earlier subject, if you use synthetic, I would recommend Amsoil, or Mobil 1, as they use higher grade materials than everyone else. Using synthetic is obviously not a problem for rotaries, so long as you use a high grade. The only problem comes in switching back and forth between synthetic and conventional, but this is common to all engines. As far as filters, DO NOT USE FRAM, they are supposedly involved in a lawsuit right now, because their filters were falling apart, and ruining a bunch of stock car motors. Mobil, Bosch, and K&N seem to have the best quality.

do they do the ash deposit test of synthetic oil with gas? the oil burned in the rotary engines are burned with gasoline meaning that if you base things on the testing of the oil then make sure its accurate testing to the the application.
someone who works for Mazda brought that to my attention.
2008 model rx8 will have their warranties void because of this.
don't believe everything you read

it's sad that you "FEEL" the need to rag on people in the "New Member RX-7 Technical" Forum...

just because you are mad at the world, for whatever reason, don't take it out on other rotary members because at the end of the day, us wankel owners should stick together.
