Oil Cooler Intercooler

Super Noob Question, if I were to buy an front mount intercooler, do I still need the oil cooler? I have a leaky one and it would be nice if I could get rid of it.

Yes.

The oil cooler cools oil, and an intercooler cools intake air. Two separate and very different things.

Oil coolers themselves rarely leak. It is probably the hose. Even if the cooler has a small leak, most rad shops can fix it easily.

i had a leaky oil cooler in my 85 gsl-se i went to a rad shop and they couldn't do anything for me. the best (but most expensive) thing to do is get a new stock oil cooler (if needed) from either mazdatrix.com (where i got mine) or at atkinsrotary.com both are similaly priced at around $700 but it is worth every penny considering the hassle of any other way. While your at it you may as well get stainless braided oil lines for extra insurance that the oil system is safe and you dont kill your engine needlessly, i got mine off racingbeat.com, i live in NY and they are in CA and i got them in 2 weeks ground same with mazdatrix both are great sites and highly regarded by many on this forum.

If the first rad shop can't fix the cooler, there is always the option of going to a better rad shop.

I'd go with new corksport oil cooler ss lines, one of the best investments ever...
