check fuse.replace the Illumination fuse under the dash, driver's side.
there is also a room fuse.,try that too.
and this is on a S4,.so If your car is different,it would be NICE to know what series of car you have!
by the way the Odometer and speedometer are Connected to the transmission by a Cable..it is Not Electrical in any way,so If the Speedo/Odo goes out, then it would be a Cable or cluster or the plastic gear at the trans.

Just the speedometer/odometer went dark? If the whole instrument cluster went dark then i would check your dimming switch. In any case, it will still register speed and clock your odometer.

Sorry I wasn't more clear
My car is a 1993 RX-7 Touring, and I am the original owner. It had about 46K on the odometer, before it went dark. I will try the fuse route first. Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I am at work and can't remember if the illumination is out as well. I will definitely check the dimmer switch too. If that is the problem I'm going to feel pretty silly. Thanks

i had the same problem with my car i just figured it out yesterday by chance. for some reason the odometer and speedometer run off the ground for your fuel pump. my odometer would go blank and then come back on randomly, the speedometer would read 20mph at an idle. make sure you have a good ground at the fuel pump if not then run a new ground. it worked for me.
