Hey guys
I'm sure this is obvious but do series 5 rx7's have an OBDII port? The reason I ask is I want to run the dash command Bluetooth OBDII connection, it's a 1989 model. And also what modifications are required for E85. I have mild port, high flow turbo, big exhaust. I have a turbo smart fuel pressure regulator but I'm not sure if it has different fuel pump and injectors. Any thoughts and help would be much appreciated!

Only 3rd gens were OBDII (i believe) and you wanna run e85? I know you'll need huge injectors (id1000s at least) you need to find out what pump and injectors you have

Amd in short, no, the stock ECU won't run e85, you'll need something with FULL control

In all honesty, it sounds like you have alot more learning about the car and how it works/what it has/what your capabilities are before you go e85

 

The guy that I bought it off "rebuilt" it but he had no idea what pump and injectors r in it. It has a haltech ecu. I took it to a mechanic and he said that it has an upgraded fuel pump but standard injectors. Thanks

 

Part of the reason the last 7's were sold here in the states was the "upcoming" OBDII standards that started in 1996. The first OBDII rotaries here were the RX-8's.

yes, If the ecu is OBDII capable.

 

No RX-7s were ever ODBII compatible.

The only way to add OBDII is to install an OBDII compatible ECU. I am not aware of any standalones used in the rotary world that have ODBII ports. Likely no standalone as it opens up some serious legal issues.

But if you have a standalone, then an OBDII display is redundant anyway since the standalone will datalog.

Your Haltech includes very good datalogging. If things are properly configured, you will find injector sizes in the map.

 

To run a true OBDII system in your car, you'd need to run the RX-8 electronics, and that means hooking up all the emissions systems the RX-8 came with. I looked on line and found your Haltech supports CAN/BUS output, you should see if you can communicate using that. At the minimum, you'll need much larger injectors as E85 has a lot less energy stored in it per volume vs. gasoline which means much lower AFR values.

 

Is it possible to run a mixture of e85 and 98? I have a mate that's done this in his Subaru and te computer adjusts the fuel/air ration to suit the % of e85.

 

Because its probably made to run e85

It sounds like your overthinking the process of running e85 or trying to find an easy way out of the right way and tuning the car

 

Depending on which Haltech you have, it may support a flex fuel sensor. So with that sensor and an appropriate tune, you could run any concentration of ethanol you want.
