But why do they call it the "Idiot Cluster"?

The lights are called idiot lights.
therefore a cluster of lights is a idiot cluster.

They call them Idiot lights because even an Idiot can see that something is "up" when the light goes off!..( I didn't name them,so sue me!)
As opposed to looking at a Real Factual/functioning gauge.
