CA NOOB With a lot of Enthusiasm and no Cash

Hello all, just bought an 88 Rx-7 GXL. Thanks to this forum i learned alot before buying it. i think i got a pretty good deal i spent 2,200 USD. it has 130k miles. everyting is stock stock and pretty much stock. i just upgraded the interior dome lights and after that again stock.

Things that were broken
Passenger window wouldnt work... fixed switch and lubed window motor works fine.
Sunroof sticky...Cleaned and lubed works fine...
Driver window makes a racket and sticks...Cleaned and lubed workes fine.
Gas door wouldnt stay closed latch fell out... Found latch and reatached works fine...
Seats are Garbage... (temp Fix) Put new seat covers... Looks OK.

Things that were new when i bought it..
Radiator/hoses
Alternator
Brakes and master cylinder
Tires
Clutch.

Ive driven it for about 2000 miles now and i have a couple of minor issues with it.
It idles high for a long time. after it gets good and hot it settles down around 1000 rpm but till it gets hot i mean at least an hour of driving on a hot day it sits anywhere between 1600 and 2000 rpm.

The car only had one owner and took good care of it. the body only has one small coin sized ding in the pass door and a couple of scratches in the paint.

The last problem i have is that i love the car and will never get rid of it...
Im looking into getting in way over my head and doing the 20b swap/upgrade, but as i have been doing research i find myself a bit lacking in knowledge so will continue to do research and discovery till i am ready and have a load of cash...

Thanks for any imputs in advance

What input are you looking for?

For the high idle, make sure that you have a thermostat in the car. Check the throttle body linkages at the rear to make sure they are not sticking. There should be a coolant hose which brings coolant to the rear of the throttle body and out the BAC valve. If this hose is missing or plugged, replace it.

Make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks as stock idle is 750 RPM +-50.

Definitely download a free copy of the FSM from the FAQ.

Don't even think about a 20B until you have some experience and about $20,000 burning a hole in your pocket.

thank you for the pointers.
and i will definatly download the FSM
Ill mess around with the idle this weekend a bit.
Yes i will need atleast 20k to start with for the 20b... but ill start it small and work into it as it will be a hobbie anyway... i am a mechanic by trade and have a good working knowledge around a shop.

and as for the imputs you already provided them just looking for some points to check on the idle issue..

Thanks again.
