Unhappy new to rx7.. cooling system problem

hi, i bought my first rx7 on saturday. its a 1995 white with full veilside kit and awsome engine work, currently running 427 bhp.. i was driving it last night and noticed the heater inside the car would not blow warm air.the light on the dash for add coolant came on. i looked at my apexi fc and was runnin 95 temp. after a min the temop rose to 102 and then i started to crap it. i drove the car and tried to get air into the car. i checked the header tank and it was empty but was full earlier that day. then all of a sudden after going up to about 105 temp the heaters in the car started blowing warm air again. it was fine. the apexi fc showed the temp drop dramaticly . the temp went down really fast to normal temp the fans were on and workin all belts are fine and after it cooled down till normal temp the header tank was full again. and it has done this all last nite. it works fine for a wile then does this.
would i be wrong to think the thermostat is stickin. i totally new to rx7 and know about most of the problems they have but this is a new one. the car has a 3 times bigger radiator aswell.

please could someone help..
thanks

it sounds like the thermostat thou if your rx is eating coolant that could mean you have a blown coolant seal which is an instant rebuild

A bigger radiator isn't necessarily better.

On a street car with AC installed you don't get as much airflow through it as you do a smaller radiator. The stock one is actually a lot better on a street car, except it has an annoying habit of busting and spilling your coolant all over the road, hopefully not going around a corner when it happens.

Best thing to do is do a total system check. Drain it, flush it, replace all of your hoses (blocked up hoses can be a pain in the ****), replace the thermostat and gasket, get a pressure test kit and pressure test your cooling system to make sure it has no leaks anywhere.

Perhaps a better question is what have you done to the car since you bought it? Have you already drained/flushed the coolant? It's possible you just didn't get all of the air out.

Whatever you do don't drive it with the buzzer going off, you could really screw it up. These cars overheat pretty easy.

i had the same kind of problem with my FC, try replacing the thermostat or one of the coolant hoses may have a leak so check for that too.
