Hey guys I recently got an 88 fc gxl. Its a 5 speed and I am having problems with the shift lever and assembly. The car has 170k miles on it but a very new and healthy rebuilt 13b. The problem I'm having is the shift lever is extremely loose. To the point that it is nearly impossible to find the gears sometimes. Also there is hot air coming up from the boot. I took it apart earlier today and looked and it appears that some of the boot is missing but that wouldn't cause the looseness of the shift lever would it? If any pictures are needed I can take some and post them. Help would be greatly appreciated because this car is going to be daily driven very soon and I am new to a 5 speed so the loose lever makes it even more difficult.

Replace the boot.

And replace the shift bushings (see FAQ).
