Hi, I'm looking at buying an 88 rx7 non-turbo and I'm thinking it may have a coolant seal leak. So I have a couple questions:
1. How much would it cost to replace the seal if I did it myself and how much time would it take.
2. Would a complete coolant flush and fill, adding a sealer allow me about a week to work with work to get the necessary amount of time to do the repair if needed.
What I know of the condition was that during about a 20-30 minute test drive the temp gauge stayed pretty much constant until we had arrived back at his place where it crept up to the halfway mark. When we got back and popped the hood, the reservoir was bubbling over rather violently and seamed to have steam coming out.
If there is any more information you need I can try to provide it but I haven't bought the car yet so it will be somewhat limited.

1: did you check the coolant level Before you went out on that drive?
2: aluma seal has been known to work temporarily.
3: a coolant seal means taking the engine out and basically rebuilding it.(about 1600 bucks)
4: look up how to compression test the engine,so you can get a better idea as to what is happening inside the engine.
