New Owner Questions Galore

So I am a new owner of a '88 RX7, and Rotary all together so I want to know the do's and dont's of Rotary and I figured you guys and gals could assist the "Rotary Newb".

I already know to check the oil religiously, but that's about it.

Also, I had a question regarding my sunroof. It will tilt up, but will not slide open. Any ideas on what the issue may be and how to fix it?

maintenance wise it's a 20 year plus old car so you need to attend to anyting that it requires.
Brakes, shock, suspension, bushings, mounts, plugs, filt ers.The list can go on but I won't..(you can find Tons of threads on maintenance, the club has great info on that).

Sunroof, you need to lubricate it.Tracks get gummy, the cables get sticky.

Oh,word to the wise,Please state your CAR and series the next time so it is easier to get specific info!!..Or Big Daddy will be telling ya how to put a distributor in a 68 Nova!

Ah sorry about that. And I figured that much. I just wanted to know about the Rotary specifics. Had someone tell me to be easy when starting the car and to watch the temperature.

It's a 1988 Mazda RX7 GXL (S4 FC)

Well hit me up then, I wouldn't mind hanging with some other Rotary owners. Might learn more about em while hanging with more owners.

(Sorry for double post)

Here is a question, I think the fuel gauge is not reading correctly. The last time I filled up my car, it showed below a quarter on the gauge, but when I finished pumping I had only put in 9 gallons in the tank. Unless I read wrong somewhere, but my model has a 16 gallon tank correct?

Is that a potential bad fuel sender?

could also be (like my car has) a lazy fuel gauge. if correct it should have a 16.6 gallon tank. Also (be easy) starting I would highly suggest not revving it to high while the motor is cold and not removing the cold start assists like i did!...lol..and If it floods either let it sit don't crank on it unless you have the egi fuse removed and only do that for 10 secs or so just to get the unburnt fuel out.

Yeah I believe that might be the case. Just filled her up and only put 12 gallons and it was showing empty.

And thanks for the tips, I will be sure to keep that in mind!

Also, another question. There is a reservoir on the passenger side back near the firewall and I am not entirely sure what it's used for, any ideas?

(And newb question)
Which tread to I post a request for a part?

It's used to inject coolant into the engine during cold starts to assist the engine in making an easier start, but Mazda concluded that the process does not work so it's not needed. For those that remove the unit, the hose leading to the engine would need to be capped.

Thanks guys and will do Aviator.

Last questions I can think of at the moment.

1) My wiper fluid light is on constantly and it will not go off. I know there is window washer fluid in both the front and rear reservoirs. Is this a potential dirty sensor or something else?

2) The clock on the Warning Light display seems to get dim at times then go right back to being bright. It seems to get brighter if I hit a bump or tap the top of the dash where the clock is located. Is this a loose connection on the display?

The clock is part of the "idiot cluster" and that assembly is prone to cold solder joints.
This shows up as intermittent clock,no clock,,etc..

Solution is to resolder the joints or get a new cluster(I go used).

(Double post again, I apologize!)

Here is my last stupid question for this thread.

Is there a way I can get the seat to set lower? My head is practically touching the roof of the car at times. It's not a big issue, just would like to have a little more head clearance while driving.
