New Owner, Exhaust question

Afternoon All...

I'm from the UK and am a new owner of a 3rd gen rx7. Beautiful car and has obviously been looked after, but I'm still getting the hang of what is normal and what I need to be worried about.

Its a pretty cold wet winter here at the moment and when I start the engine up, I'm getting a fair bit of white smoke from the exhaust for a few minutes which then subsides. Also noticed I'm getting some black soot / black watery liquid spitting out of the exhaust at start up. Not huge amounts, just enough to be smattered over the hand if you hold it a few inched passed the exhaust tip.

Other threads have suggested this is normal, but would be really grateful if someone could explain what this might be and if I need to do anything.

thanks!

Chris

Just condensation. Overnight with the temperature changes, a good amount of water accumulates in the exhaust and engine. This turns to steam as soon as things get hot enough. The black gunk is just carbon mixed with this water.
