New Owner Engine Sound Concerns

Hey guys!

Wondering if this is normal for a stock RX7 FD (1999 Type RS) lots of crackling sound + boiling aound in the engine, then a red glowing hot engine after a run (1-2 hours)

Then a loud beeping noise is heard from interior. Can anyone please help me? Cheers!

it is somewhat normal for the exhaust to glow while the car is running (actually driving). however, i'm assuming you are asking the question because it was glowing while you were parked. is that assumption correct? if so, then no.

i'm not an FD guy, but my first thought would be a blockage in the exhaust stream (dead cat, collapsed silencer, etc.). the only other thing i can think of would be timing issues or failing coils.

Hi diabolical!

So it was just parked after a run. Im assuming that glowing part was the exhaust area as you mentioned? Any idea on that beeping sound inside too? cheers!

I am not an FD3s guy either but that warning buzzer could very well be the overheat exhaust warning with your exhaust glowing that hot. Check for blockage or collapsed catalytic converter ?

yes, Relisys190. that was my first thought as well, so i did a little digging and found that there should be a light for it (somewhere near the e-brake handle), but as of yet, i have not confirmed that there is a buzzer to go along with it. however, if the light and buzzer coincide, then that's probably confirmation enough.

in the meantime, PonPwn, here is a link to: Foxed.ca . you can download a copy of your FSM, but i'm not sure it will cover every detail of what i assume would be an RHD model, there in New Zealand. giving it a look can't hurt though. wish i could be of more help.
