Exclamation New and have some 1st gen questions!

Ok I am looking at getting my first car here hopefully soon and had some questions. OK it is a first gen rx7 with some problems. The car has a bent oil pan with a tiny leak. The car has 250,000 mi. on it and has a hole in the exhaust somewhere. This is what I have been told so far. I'm thinking the catalytic converted may have clogged up and forced a hole.

So my question is... If I were to get it running healthy, how much more can I get out of the engine? What else could have caused the exhaust to acquire a hole? Can the oil pan cause a bigger problem in the future and could it be a driveway fix? Should I just find a donor engine?

Oh yea and I'm getting this thing for nearly nothing and have a budget of $1,000.

engine life is dependent on how it was treated/cared for during it's life. i've heard some to go to 300k miles. provided it didn't create a hole, the dent in the oil pan can probably be beat out. may have to take the mount loose from the cross member and jacked up to remove the pan but can be done in the driveway. and used engines in running condition can be had for cheap but again u don't know how they were treated.

Rxtasy3 Thank you very much. And I also wanted to know if rotary engines are hard to rebuild because I was just thinking of just rebuilding it.

If you are mechanically experianced, then you can probably rebuild it. You will need a 2 1/8in socket and flywheel stopper for the flywheel. you can check rebuild parts prices from www.atkinsrotary.com. Check the 1st gen FAQ for more info

Thanks for your help man. Yea i'll be spending alot of time here as this will be my first major project. I have worked on a bunch of cars but not a rotary and I've been spending alot of time into research about the engine and it's really alot "cooler" than your average piston driven engines. But thanks again.
